P: Brexit in the streets of London

Abstract:

My sister Janka started to suffer from an illness, which was much later specified as "something close to schizophrenia, supplemented by depression…". around the age of 20. I I have been photographing Janka since 2015, when her illness was already fully developed. In second grade at the ITF, I prepared a publication about Janka on the topic of a social document. In this second version of the book, I try to work with different aspects of photographs (size, placement on the page, visuality) so that the viewer her/himself is eager to reveal the story behind. Why does the rhythm of photos change? Why blank pages? What does a Medusa head mean? I worked mostly with the archive, the photos are accompanied by authentic excerpts from letters that my sister wrote to me, while I was often abroad, during the years when the illness started to burst out. The story is more revealed by the text (a letter) at the end of the book, which attentive viewer / reader can discover there.

Abstract:

FOR SEVERAL YEARS SINCE THE 2016 REFERENDUM, THE TOPIC OF UNITED KINGDOM LEAVING THE EU FILLED STREETS OF LONDON WITH PROTEST AND SOCIETY HAS BEEN FIERCELY DIVIDED. WHILST PRO-UNION REMAIN DEMONSTRATIONS BROUGHT TO THE STREETS RECORD CROWDS OF MORE THAN 1.3 MILION PEOPLE, SMALL GROUPS OF BRITISH SPIN-OFF OF YELLOW VESTS MARCHED WEEKEND AFTER WEEKEND TO CALL FOR LEAVE AND TENS OF THOUSANDS FILLED CENTRAL LONDON EVERY TIME THE KINGDOM WAS ABOUT THE DROP OUT OF THE EU BLOC. THIS PHOTOGRAPHIC SERIES FOCUSES ON MANIFESTATION OF PROTEST BY BOTH SIDES OF THE DIVIDE STARTING WITH RISE OF NATIONALISM THROUGH HOPE IN POLITICAL SOLUTION TO CELEBRATION OF THE END OF THE 46 YEAR MEMBERSHIP
