Comparison of accounting records audit testing methods and automated solution implementation

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na testování účetních záznamů, konkrétně na porovnání manuálního a automatizovaného přístupu. Současný, tedy manuální způsob testování auditních záznamů, představuje problém z hlediska časové náročnosti, nekonzistentnosti testování a obecné neefektivity. Cílem práce je porovnání různých metod a postupů použitelných při auditním testování účetních záznamů a vytvoření automatizovaného řešení s využitím dostupných nástrojů pro analýzu auditních dat. Dílčím cílem této práce je detailní popis manuálního postupu, který představuje stávající způsob řešení problému. Práce představuje automatizované řešení s využitím nástroje Caseware IDEA. Práce je členěna na sedm kapitol, které pokrývají testování účetních záznamů, zdrojová data a jejich diverzitu, současný manuální způsob testování, automatizované řešení, vyhodnocení a porovnání obou přístupů, a možnosti budoucího vývoje. Výzkum využívá metody analýzy, komparace a polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Výsledky práce ukazují, že automatizované řešení přináší efektivnější a konzistentnější výsledky v porovnání s manuálním testováním. Dále identifikuje potenciál pro další rozvoj a rozšíření automatizovaného řešení.

Abstract:

This master's thesis focuses on testing accounting records, specifically on comparing manual and automated approaches. The current, manual method of testing audit records presents problems in terms of time-consuming, inconsistent testing, and general inefficiency. The aim of the thesis is to compare various methods and procedures applicable in auditing the testing of accounting records and to create an automated solution using available tools for audit data analysis. A sub-goal of this work is a detailed description of the manual procedure, which represents the existing way of solving the problem. The work presents an automated solution using the Caseware IDEA tool. The thesis is divided into seven chapters, covering the testing of accounting records, source data and their diversity, the current manual testing method, automated solutions, evaluation, and comparison of both approaches, and future development possibilities. The research employs methods of analysis, comparison, and semi-structured interviews. The results of the study show that the automated solution provides more efficient and consistent results compared to manual testing. It also identifies the potential for further development and expansion of the automated solution.
