Reception of Czech contemporary literature in Austria after the Velvet Revolution (1989-2023)

Abstract:

This work deals with the reception of contemporary Czech literature in Austria after the Velvet Revolution (1989-2023). Since there is a large amount of primary sources on the selected topic, it was necessary to narrow down this research more specifically. Ultimately, I focused on the works of the writer Michal Viewegh, because his works were most published in Austria. The work is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part describes the methodology of my work and the instruments with which the literary texts are perceived. The situation in literature in the Czech Republic after 1989 and Czech literature in the international space with a focus on Austria are also examined. The practical part examines Michal Viewegh's works, how they were perceived in the German-speaking area (with a focus on Austria) and in the Czech Republic, and I will also use a comparison process to focus on how the reception was among German-speaking readers and critics compared to the Czech Republic.

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá recepcí současné české literatury v Rakousku po sametové revoluci (1989-2023). Vzhledem k tomu, že existuje velké množství primárních zdrojů k vybranému tématu, bylo nutné tento výzkum zkonkretizovat. Nakonec jsem se zaměřila na díla spisovatele Michala Viewegha, protože jeho díla vycházela nejvíce v daném období v Rakousku. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a empirickou část. V teoretické části je popsána metodika mé práce a nástroje, kterými jsou literární texty vnímány. Snažím se také přiblížit situaci v literatuře v České republice po roce 1989 a českou literaturu v mezinárodním prostoru se zaměřením na Rakousko. Praktická část zkoumá díla Michala Viewegha, jak byly vnímána v německy mluvících zemích (se zaměřením na Rakousko) a v České republice, a také provedu srovnání, jaká byla recepce mezi německy mluvícími čtenáři a kritiky ve srovnání s Českou republikou.
