Abstract:

Předkládám výsledky ze série experimentů týkajících se chování ve vězňově dilematu, v guessing game, public goods game, ultimatum game a v pure matching coordination game. Dvě široká témata spojují tyto výzkumy: férovost a sociální normy. Tato práce rozšiřuje stávající poznání konkrétně následujícím způsobem: 1) Zkoumám a nacházím důkazy pro instrumentální férovost a aktivní klamání. Navrhuji novou klasifikaci hráčů z hlediska těchto dvou proměnných. 2) Zjišťuji efekt učení ve hře vězňovo dilema proti třem z pěti zkoumaných strategií. 3) Provádím ověření robustnosti dříve zjištěného zajímavého výsledku, že v nepřítomnosti zpětné vazby dochází k lepšímu transferu smysluplného učení mezi částečně odlišnými hrami. 4) Zjišťuji, že skupiny, které od začátku lépe spolupracují, spolupracují lépe i v delším časovém horizontu. 5) Zjišťuji, že tvrdé vyjednávání je efektivní, pokud není přehnaně tvrdé. 6) V testu nové metody pro měření sociálních norem zjišťuji, že poskytování finančních incentiv účastníkům nemá vliv na měření norem. 7) Používám nedávno publikovanou metodu k měření sociálních norem v kontextu environmentálního chování a zjišťuji, že sdílené sociální normy predikují environmentální chování.

Abstract:

I report results from a series of experiments on behavior in the prisoner’s dilemma game, guessing game, public goods game, ultimatum game and a pure matching coordination game. Two broad topics underlie these investigations: fairness and social norms. More specifically, this work makes the following main contributions: 1) I study instrumental fairness and active deception, finding evidence for both. I offer a new classification of agents with respect to these behaviors. 2) I find inter-game learning in the prisoner’s dilemma against three out of five strategies employed. 3) I check the robustness of a previous interesting finding that when feedback is withheld, transfer of “meaningful” learning to partially dissimilar games is stronger than when feedback is given (this study differs from the rest in that it does not focus on fairness or norms). 4) I report evidence showing that initially more cooperative groups are relatively more able to sustain cooperation in the long run. 5) I demonstrate that unless it is excessively tough, tough bargaining can be effective. 6) I provide a robustness check of a new incentive-compatible norm elicitation method showing that respondents submit equally accurate ratings with and without incentives. 7) I use this recently introduced norm elicitation method in the context of environmental behavior and establish that shared normative beliefs indeed predict environmental behaviors.
