Impacts of the implementation of IFRS 17 to the insurance company's reports

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá novým standardem Mezinárodního účetního výkaznictví IFRS 17 Pojistné smlouvy. Jedná se o komplexní standard nabývající účinnost od 1. ledna 2023. Jeho hlavním cílem je stanovit jednotnou úpravu pro všechny pojistné smlouvy napříč všemi zeměpisnými oblastmi a zajistit srovnatelnost účetních výkazů nejen v rámci pojistného sektoru, ale i v rámci dalších odvětví. Implementací standardu se promění struktura účetních výkazů, především výkazu zisku a ztráty, i podrobnost informací zveřejněných v příloze k účetní závěrce. Převážně u životních pojišťoven se očekává snížení vlastního kapitálu a ziskovosti. Velikost snížení ale nelze přesně predikovat kvůli rozdílnosti metod uplatňovaných společnostmi v rámci předchozí úpravy. IFRS 17 přinese nové výzvy i ve finančním řízení či externím auditu.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the new International Financial Reporting Standard IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts. This is a sophisticated standard that will take effect on January 1, 2023. Main objective of this standard is to establish one accounting model for all insurance contracts across all geographical areas and to increase comparability of financial statements not only within the insurance industry but also within all other industries. The implementation of the standard will change the structure of financial statements, especially the statement of profit and loss, as well as the detail of information disclosed in the notes to the financial statements. Mainly in the case of life insurance companies, a decrease in equity and profitability is expected. However, the size of reduction cannot be accurately predicted due to the differences in methods used by companies under the previous regulation. IFRS 17 will also bring new challenges in financial management and external audit.
