Immigration of Mexicans to Arizona from the perspective of the theory of transnational migration

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem migrace mexických obyvatel do Arizony. K tomuto účelu je využita teorie transnacionální migrace, která zkoumá udržování vazeb migrantů mezi jejich původní a přijímací zemí na základě ekonomických, politických, sociálních a kulturních aspektů. Tímto tato teorie umožňuje propojení několika vědních disciplín a vysvětlení transnacionálních aktivit. Stát Arizona je vzhledem ke své geografické poloze na hranicích s Mexikem častou destinací pro značnou část mexických migrantů v USA. Pomocí transnacionální teorie migrace jsou v bakalářské práci charakterizovány aktivity mexických migrantů, které souvisejí s jejich adaptací a přizpůsobením se na životní styl a podmínky v novém prostředí nebo naopak s udržováním vazeb a kontaktů se zemí jejich původu. Tyto rozličné aspekty migrace jsou poté využity v rámci dotazníkového šetření provedeného mezi mexickými migranty v Arizoně k získání dat a jejich analýze a srovnání s teoretickými poznatky a daty ze sekundárních zdrojů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the migration of Mexicans to Arizona. For the purposes of the thesis, the theory of transnational migration is used. The theory examines how the migrants maintain links between their country of origin and receiving country based on economic, political, social and cultural aspects. Therefore, this theory allows the interconnection of several scientific disciplines and the explanation of transnational activities. The state of Arizona is due to its geographical location on the border with Mexico a frequent destination for many Mexican migrants in the USA. By using the transnational migration theory, this thesis characterizes the activities of Mexican migrants. These activities are related to their integration and adaptation to lifestyle and conditions in the new environment or, conversely, how they maintain ties and contacts with their country of origin. These different aspects of migration are then used in the survey conducted among Mexican migrants in Arizona in order to obtain and analyze data and compare them with theoretical findings and data from secondary sources.
