Parliamentary and regional elections in Spain

Abstract:

Nejen historické, ale i nehistorické regiony Španělska jsou charakteristické svou různorodostí, která je viditelná i na chování voličů v jednotlivých regionech. Tato práce se proto zaměřuje na zkoumání těchto specifik napříč nehistorickými regiony a to mezi geograficky oddělenými regiony a mezi regiony pevninského Španělska. V práci jsou měřeny odlišnosti a shody mezi jednotlivými stranickými systémy, regionálními elektoráty, hlasováním a také vládami, za účelem zjistit, zdali má geografická vzdálenost výraznější vliv na odlišné politické chování. V jednotlivých regionech jsou rovněž pozorovány zdroje odlišností, které mohu být způsobeny nejen preferencí hlavních celostátních stran, ale i existencí stran necelostátních.

Abstract:

The historical regions of Spain, as well as the non-historical regions, are characterized by their heterogeneity, which is visible in the voting behaviour in certain regions. On account of this fact, this thesis focuses on analysing the peculiarities of the non-historical regions. This analysis is based on the comparison between two groups: the group formed by the regions of the Iberian Peninsula, and those that are geographically separated. This paper analyses the differences and similitudes between the party systems, regional electorates and voting, as well as the composition of the governments, in order to find out if the geographic situation of the regions have any influence in the electoral behaviour. The reasons for these differences that are visible in each region may be caused not only by the preferences of the voters over the state-wide parties, but also by the existence of non-state-wide parties.
