Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the character changes of Sherlock Holmes in various film and TV adaptations. The first part of the thesis describes the literary career of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and especially the origin of one of the best known fictional detective followed by the film career of Sherlock Holmes from the beginning of the silent films to the era of Basil Rathborne. The second part of the thesis is based on the analysis of the specific character changes in two famous TV adaptations (Sherlock and Elementary) with Sherlock Holmes as the hero who opposes the challenges of the modern society.

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce je popsat charakterové proměny, kterými prošla postava Sherlocka Holmese ve filmových a televizních adaptacích. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části. První, teoretická část popisuje literární kariéru Sira Arthura Conana Doyla, především pak příčiny vzniku jednoho z nejznámějších smyšlených detektivů všech dob. Dále pak následuje kariéra Sherlocka Holmese jakožto hrdiny stříbrného plátna a jeho vývoj od začátků němého filmu až po éru Basila Rathborna. Ve druhé, tedy analytické části, jsou analyzovány konkrétní charakterové proměny Sherlocka Holmese ve dvou nejznámějších televizních adaptacích současnosti ? Sherlock a Elementary. V souvislosti s těmito dvěma různými adaptacemi jsou zkoumány rozdíly a podobnosti ve způsobu zpracování Sherlocka Holmese a také to, jak tento Viktoriánský detektiv čelí výzvám moderní společnosti.
