Comparison between start-up ecosystems in the USA and Germany

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce si klade za cíl popsat a porovnat start-upové prostředí USA a Německa. Práce by měla přispět k objasnění základních rozdílů mezi těmito ekosystémy. V první části se věnuji charakteristice start-upů, rizikového kapitálu a start-upového ekosystému. Tato část zahrnuje také historické a kulturní srovnání. Druhá kapitola se věnuje konkrétním start-upům a VC investicím a zároveň popisuje vliv rizikového kapitálu a start-upů na místní ekonomiky. Na základě použitých metod jsem identifikoval nejen důležitý historický a kulturní vliv, ale i významné rozdíly mezi valuacemi start-upů v těchto zemích.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to describe and compare start-up ecosystems between the USA and Germany. This work should contribute to elucidate the fundamental differences between these ecosystems. In the first part I define start-ups, venture capital and start-up ecosystems. This section also includes historical and cultural comparisons. The second chapter focuses on specific start-ups and VC investments, and describes the impact of venture capital and start-ups on local economies. Based on the methods I have used, I have identified not only the important historical and cultural influences, but also the significant differences between the start-up valuations in these countries.
