The End of Adolescence And the Beginning of Adulthood: Emerging Adulthood As Seen by Young Men

Abstract:

Cílem této studie je hlubší porozumení období mezi adolescencí a dospelostí, nazývané jako "emerging adulthood" (Arnett, 2000), tedy "vynorující se dospelost" nebo také prechodové období. Studie je založena jak na kvalitativním výzkumu, který pedstavují rozhovory s mladými muži (18 -25 let), tak na prístupu kvantitativním. Nekterá z hlavních témat, která se jevila jako relevantní ke konceptu dospelosti, jsou dále overována vlastní dotazníkovou metodou, nazvanou Dotazník o prechodu do dospelosti,na souboru mladých mužu ve vekovém rozmezí 18 -27 let.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma paper is a deeper exploration of transitional period between adolescence and adulthood, also called emerging adulthood (Arnett, 2000,2002). The research is based on both qualitative and quantitative design. In the qualitative study, the subjective perception of adulthood is presented as seen by young men (18 25 years old). Core themes and ideas within broad domains (negotiating adulthood, responsibility/commitment, role transitions, social influence and autonomy) are presented and discussed. Afterwards, the findings are tested and validated in the quantitative part, where an original method of Questionnaire on the Transition into Adulthood is used for this purpose (196 young men between 18 and 27 years participated in the research as respondents).
