Trivial education in the Brno region in the late 18th century

Abstract:

Magisterská práce pojednává o triviálním školství v Brněnském kraji na konci 18. století a snaží se přispět k dějinám moravského nižšího školství. Základem výzkumu je detailní analýza školských fasí z let 1787–1791, které vznikly z činnosti krajského školního komisaře. Sledovány jsou počty triviálních škol, rozvinutost jejich sítě v regionu a dále počty školou povinných dětí, především s ohledem na jejich genderovou, sociální a náboženskou příslušnost. Vedle počtů školou povinných dětí je pozornost věnována jejich (ne)plnění školní docházky a faktorům, které ji ovlivňovaly, a to v období několika let po zavedení všeobecné školní povinnosti Marií Terezií roku 1774. Podstatnou část práce tvoří analýza hodnocení chování, vzdělání a způsobů výuky učitelů, jejich pomocníků a katechetů. V závěru práce je zohledněn stav školních budov a jejich vybavení ve vztahu ke kvalitě triviálních škol. Dosažené výsledky jsou komparovány se staršími výzkumy triviálního školství z oblasti Čech.

Abstract:

The master's thesis deals with Trivial education in the Brno region in the late 18th century with an effort to contribute to the history of Moravian primary education. The research is based on a detailed analysis of school reports (the so called ‚,fassiones‘‘ in Latin) from the years 1787 to 1791, which arose on behalf of the regional school commissioner. The monitoring takes place during a period of several years after the introduction of compulsory schooling by Maria Theresa of Austria in 1774. Attention is paid to the amount of Trivial schools (the so called ,,Trivialschule‘‘ in German) and the development of the network in the region as well as the attendance of school by school-aged children, in regard to their gender, social and religious affiliation. An essential part of the thesis is the analysis of the evaluation of behavior, education and teaching methods of teachers, their assistants and catechists. At the end of the thesis, the condition of school buildings and their equipment in relation to the quality of trivial schools is taken into account. The achieved results are compared with older research of trivial education from the Bohemian regions.
