Design and implementation of EnviLab infrastructure for environmental data analysis and processing

Abstract:

The field of remote sensing currently provides a large amount of data which freely available to society and researchers. These data find applications in various application domains. One of them is environmental monitoring, which focuses on mapping the state and ongoing evolution of the landscape and its ecosystems. Enviromental data is abundant, but there is missing an unified solution that would process or analyse them. This is coupled with questions of what means to use for storage, analysis or accessing these data. The subject of this thesis is the design of the infrastructure of the EnviLab – a cloud solution that will provide a unified environment for enviromental analysis together with powerful computing capabilities. The resulting architectural design is also provided with prototype implementation to serve as a basis for production deployment and extension of the platform.

Abstract:

Oblasť diaľkového prieskumu Zeme nám v súčasnosti poskytuje veľké množstvo dát, ktoré sú voľne dostupné pre spoločnosť a výskumníkov. Tieto dáta nachádzajú uplatnenie v rôznych aplikačných doménach. Jednou z nich je aj enviromentálne monitorovanie, ktoré sa zameriava na mapovanie stavu a priebežného vývoja krajiny a jej ekosystémov. Enviromentálych dát je síce dostatok, no chýba jednotné riešenie, ktoré by ich spracovalo respektíve analyzovalo. Spolu s tým sú spojené otázky aké prostriedky používať pri ukladaní, analýze či sprístupňovaní týchto dát. Predmetom práce je návrh infraštruktúry EnviLab – cloudového riešenia, ktoré poskytne jednotné prostredie pre enviromentálne analýzy spolu s výkonnými výpočtovými kapacitami. K výslednému architektonickému návrhu je poskytnutá aj prototypová implementácia slúžiaca ako základ pre produkčné nasadenie a rozširovanie platformy.
