The nurse's role in péreventing the occurence of complications in patients with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na zkoumání role sester v prevenci výskytu komplikací u pacientů s ECMO podporou. Cílem práce je zjistit úroveň znalostí a dovedností sester pro efektivní rozeznání a prevenci komplikací u pacientů s extrakorporální membránovou oxygenací. Teoretická část obsahuje přehled základních informací o mimotělní membránové oxygenaci, poukazuje na indikace a kontraindikace její aplikace, zahrnuje soupis potenciálních komplikací a specifika ošetřovatelské péče. Empirická část je zpracována kombinací kvantitativně-kvalitativního šetření pro poskytnutí komplexního pohledu na zkoumanou problematiku. Sběr dat byl proveden prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření a polostrukturovaných rozhovorů se sestrami se zkušenostmi s péčí o ECMO pacienty ve vybrané nemocnici v Praze. Praktickým výstupem jsou edukační karty, které mohou sloužit jako průvodce pro sestry a studenty medicíny a ošetřovatelství k lepšímu pochopení ECMO terapie a potenciálních komplikací s ní spojených.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on exploring the role of nurses in preventing the occurrence of complications in patients on ECMO support. The aim of the thesis is to determine the level of knowledge and skills of nurses to effectively recognize and prevent complications in patients with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. The theoretical part includes an overview of basic information about extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, highlights the indications and contraindications for its application, includes a list of potential complications, and specifics of nursing care. The empirical part is processed by a combination of quantitative and qualitative investigations to provide a comprehensive view of the issue under study. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews with nurses experienced in caring for ECMO patients in a selected hospital in Prague. The practical output are educational cards that can serve as a guide for nurses and students of medicine and nursing in better understanding ECMO therapy and potential complications associated with it.
