The Visegrád Group as an Optimum Currency Area

Abstract:

Diplomová práce s názvem Visegrádská skupina jako optimální měnová oblast se v první kapitole zabývá teoretickými aspekty měnové integrace. Je zde popsán vývoj měnové integrace v Evropě, Maastrichtská konvergenční kritéria a teorie optimální měnové oblasti. Druhá kapitola se zabývá procesem měnové integrace v Evropské unii. Aby mohla země vstoupit do Evropské měnové unie musí splňovat konvergenční kritéria. V této kapitole je popsán vývoj jednotlivých kritérií zemí Visegrádské skupiny v období 2004-2020. Třetí kapitola je věnována indexu optimální měnové oblasti. Jsou zde zhodnoceny jednotlivé ukazatele indexu pro země Visegrádské skupiny mezi sebou i vůči Německu. Pomocí regresní rovnice indexu optimální měnové oblasti je zhodnoceno, do jaké míry tvoří země Visegrádské skupiny optimální měnovou oblast, i jsou-li tyto země vhodnými kandidáty pro vstup do Evropské měnové unie.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis entitled The Visegrád Group as an Optimum Currency Area in the first chapter deals with theoretical aspects of the monetary integration. It describes the development of the monetary integration in Europe, the Maastricht convergence criteria and the theory of the optimum currency area. The second chapter deals with the process of monetary integration in the European Union. In order to join the European Monetary Union, a country must meet the convergence criteria. The chapter describes the development of the criteria of the Visegrád Group countries in the period 2004-2020. The third chapter is devoted to the Optimum currency area index. Index indicators are evaluated for the Visegrad Group countries as well as for Germany. The regression equation of the optimum currency area index evaulates whether the Visegrád Group countries form the optimum currency area. Also whether these countries are suitable candidates for accession to the European Monetary Union.
