Provenance of metabasite polished tools from the Na Turoldu Cave in Mikulov

Abstract:

Práce se soustřeďuje na vyhodnocení provenience metabazitových nástrojů nalezených v jeskyni Na Turoldu v Mikulově. Podrobná charakteristika byla zaměřena na hlavní skupinu surovin – metabazity (50 % z celé kolekce). Základní chemismus artefaktů i srovnávaných zdrojů surovin (Jizerské hory a Želešice u Brna) byl stanoven nedestruktivně pomocí ED – XRF spektrometru. Dále byla určována hustota, magnetická susceptibilita – kapametrem a na kapa-můstku (MFK1 – FA Kappabridge). Horniny byly studovány ve čtyřech výbrusech pod polarizačním mikroskopem a na elektronovém mikroanalyzátoru. Na tomto základě byla určována provenience vzhledem ke dvěma možným nejvýznamnějším pravěkým zdrojům na našem území (Jizerské hory a Želešice). Výsledkem je zjištění, že velká část zkoumaných vzorků pochází s velkou pravděpodobností z oblasti Jizerských hor, u několika artefaktů lze konstatovat, že jejich zdrojem bylo metabazitové těleso ze Želešic a část metabazitových artefaktů se nepodařilo jednoznačně určit.

Abstract:

The work focuses on assessing the provenance metabazites tools found in the Cave Na Turoldu in Mikulov. Detailed characterization was focused on a core group of raw materials - metabasites (50 % of the entire collection ). The basic chemistry of the artifacts as well as comparison of source material (Jizera Mountains and Želešice u Brna) was determined nondestructively using ED - XRF spectrometer. Further there was determined the density, magnetic susceptibility – by kappameter and kappa - bridge (MFK1–FA Kappabridge). The rocks were studied in four thin sections under a polarizing microscope and electron microprobe. On this basis, the origin is determined in relation to two possible prehistoric most important resources in our territory (Jizera Mountains and Želešice). The result is the finding that a large part of the investigated samples is likely to come from the area of Jizera Mountains with a few artifacts we can say that their source was metabasite body of Želešice and a part of metabazits artifacts are not clearly identified.
