V polárních oblastech se běžně vyskytují cykly zamrzání-tání v kombinaci s vystavením vysokým dávkám záření. Tyto stresory nepůsobí na fototrofní organismy jenom přímo, ale i přeneseně působením molekul s oxidativní funkcí. Freeze-thaw cycles with high irradiance are very common in Polar regions. These stressors have also indirect impact on autotrophic organisms via molecules with oxidative function. Phototrophic organisms use wide spectrum of antioxidative mechanisms.
