Existential moments in children s literature

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce Existenciální momenty v dětské literatuře nahlíží dětskou literaturu optikou existencialismu. Úvod je věnován estetice v dětském světě, především pak vymezení pozice dětské knihy na poli estetiky, vedle toho také popisuje estetiku existencialismu. Zásadní částí práce je obhajoba dětské knihy jako esteticky relevantního objektu pomocí argumentů opřených o současné teorie amerických estetiků Thomase Leddyho, Josepha Stantona a dalších. Následující kapitoly se věnují filozofii existencialismu a jeho estetice, pojmenovávají jednotlivé existenciální motivy nalezené v existencialistické filozofii. Ty jsou poté aplikovány na současnou dětskou literaturu. Existenciální hledisko je tu využito jako jednotící prvek, společné měřítko, skrze které hledám a analyzuji estetické kvality vybraných dětských knih. Práce manipuluje s předpokladem, že takové momenty mohou být stěžejní pro estetiku dětské knihy. Cílem diplomové práce je tedy rozeznat a rozebrat tyto momenty ve vybraných dětských knihách a podpořit jimi předpoklad, že má dětská kniha své nezadatelné místo na poli estetiky.

Abstract:

The master’s thesis Existential moments in children´s literature examines children´s literature in the aspects of existentialism. The first part of the text is focused on aesthetics in the world of children, especially on setting the position of children´s book in the aesthetic field. Furthermore, there is described the specific qualities of aesthetics of existentialism. The main part of the thesis is the advocacy of children´s book as aesthetically relevant object, based on theories of current American scholars Thomas Leddy, Joseph Stanton and others. The following chapters are focused on the philosophy of existentialism, especially various existential motives, which are the key aspects of existential philosophy. In the second part of the text these motives are found in children´s books. The purpose of this thesis is the recognition and analysis of existential moments in the selected children´s books. Subsequently, these moments are confronted with the assumption, that children´s picture book has it´s unquestionable place in the aesthetic field.
