Men's display rules for primary emotions in middle and late adulthood

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce ve své úvodní části shrnuje dosavadní poznatky související s očekávanou existencí vztahu mezi věkem mužů ve střední a pozdní dospělosti a tendencemi v rámci kulturních norem - pravidel projevu primárních emocí. Za zástupce primárních emocí bylo vybráno štěstí a pohrdání, které podle předešlých výzkumů vykazují nejvhodnější charakteristiky. Jako metoda sběru dat pro kvantitativní šetření byla zvolena zkrácená verze dotazníku Display Rule Assessment Inventory, která se zaměřovala na místo interakce a blízkost vztahu k dané osobě. Výsledky, prezentované v rámci empirické části práce, nepotvrdily existenci vztahu mezi věkem mužů a obecnými tendencemi k zeslabení nebo neutralizaci projevu štěstí a pohrdání. Mezi zjištění, která popisují pravidla projevu primárních emocí u mužů ve střední a pozdní dospělosti, patří skutečnost, že byl nalezen významný vztah mezi blízkostí vztahu a tendencemi v projevu emoce štěstí i pohrdání, stejně jako významný vztah mezi místem interakce a již zmiňovanými emocemi. Všechna zjištění pak byla diskutována v širším kontextu a porovnána s výsledky již existující české studie zaměřené na studenty vysokých škol.

Abstract:

The thesis in its introductory part gathers current knowledge related to an expected existence of the relationship between the age of men in the middle and late adulthood and tendencies in the cultural norms - display rules for primary emotions. As representatives of the primary emotions were chosen happiness and contempt which in light of previous researches offer the optimum characteristics. As the method of data collection for the quantitative research was used a shortened version of Display Rule Assessment Inventory which focuses on the place of the interaction and the closeness of relationship with the person. The results presented in the empiric section did not confirm the existence of the relationship between the age of men and the general tendencies towards extenuation and neutralization of happiness and contempt displaying. In the midst of findings that are describing the display rules for primary emotions in the middle and late adulthood stands the fact that there is the significant correlation between the closeness of the relationship and the tendencies of display rules for happiness and contempt. This correlation also applies to the place of interaction and those emotions. All of the findings were then discussed in the wider context and compared to the current czech study oriented on university students.
