Dominik Kindermann and his altar paintings in todays Czechia and Slovakia

Abstract:

The main topic of this diploma thesis are sacral paintings made by Dominik Kindermann of which existence is be proven to be in today’s Czech Republic and Slovakia. The production of the artist whose artwork is researched in this thesis has not been yet turned into monography and overall picture of his life and art production often appears inconsistent and confusing in the light of today’s art historical literature. For this reason, the aim of this thesis is to portray as most detailed and coherent picture about researched author, his life and sacral artwork, as possible. While analysing the sacral artwork of this authors the emphasis is put on finding possible analogies and models for said paintings which can be directly connected to education and life of Dominik Kindermann. The emphasis is also put on interpretation of said author's artwork in connection with patronage of art in the era between 18. and 19. century, as this context is, despite its importance, often overlooked in art historical literature of today. To the low interest about artwork of Dominik Kindermann is also connected also low quality and amount of photographical documentation of his work. For said reason is the part of this thesis also the first list ever made mapping his sacral painting located in today's Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá sakrálnymi maľbami Dominika Kindermanna, ktorých existenciu je v súčasnom stave bádania možné doložiť na území dnešnej Českej republiky a Slovenska. Život a tvorba tohto autora dodnes neboli monograficky spracované a celkový obraz o jeho tvorbe pôsobí v svetle dnešnej umenovednej literatúry často útržkovito až zmätočne. Cieľom práce je preto na základe dostupných informácii podať čo najpresnejší obraz o živote, pôsobení a najmä sakrálnej tvorbe skúmaného autora. Pri analýze Kindermannovej sakrálnej tvorby je pritom dôraz kladený na identifikáciu možných vzorov, ktoré je možné priamo spojiť s jeho školením ako aj následným pôsobením. V texte je tiež kladený dôraz na interpretáciu jeho tvorby a pôsobenia v kontexte mecenátu výtvarného umenia na prelome 18. a 19. storočia nakoľko je tento rozmer výtvarnej produkcie v umenovednej literatúre taktiež často opomínaný aj napriek svojmu významu. S nízkym záujmom umenovednej literatúry o tvorbu Dominika Kindermanna súvisí aj útržkovitý stav obrazovej dokumentácie jeho tvorby. Súčasťou práce je preto aj prvý súborný súpis zhromažďujúci všetky sakrálne maľby od Dominika Kindermanna dochované na území Českej a Slovenskej republiky.
