Conflicts of the Middle East in the 21st century. Case study of Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá konflikty na Blízkém východě v 21. století, přičemž práce se věnuje vnitřním konfliktům v rámci případové studie Saúdské Arábie a Íránu, dále také konfliktům mezistátního charakteru, v nichž tyto dva státy figurují. Cílem práce je zachytit současnou problematiku Blízkého východu; ekonomickou, společenskou a politickou situaci ve dvou státech, které aspirují na pozici regionálního hegemona. Kromě toho se práce také snaží poskytnou čtenáři koncepce, které oba státy nabízejí ostatním zemím v regionu, pomocí nichž se snaží upevnit svou moc v oblasti. Práce se snaží nabídnout čtenáři ucelený pohled na současnou situaci v regionu, hledá souvislosti mezi událostmi a faktory, z nichž je mnoho známých i v českém mediálním prostředí, na rozdíl od periodik však nabízí komplexní pohled na složité vazby a reflektuje rozpory mezi veřejným míněním a politikou států. Hlavní použitou metodou je analýza, deskripci využívám při významných událostech důležitých pro kontext této práce. Praktická část je dělena do tří kapitol, které se věnují analýze současné Saúdské Arábie a Íránu, poslední kapitola se pak věnuje vybraným proxy konfliktům a přímým incidentům.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the conflicts in the Middle East during the 21st century, focusing on internal conflicts in the case study of Saudi Arabia and Iran, and the interstate conflicts in which these two states figure. The aim of the thesis is to capture the contemporary conflicts of the Middle East, the current economic, social, and political situation of the two states, which aspire to the position of a regional hegemon. In addition, the work also seeks to provide the reader with concepts that both states offer to other states in the region, through which they seek to consolidate their power in the region. The thesis tries to offer the reader a comprehensive view of the current situation in the region, seeks connections between events and factors, many of which are well known in the Czech media environment, but unlike the news, the thesis offers a comprehensive view of complex ties and do reflects discrepancies between public opinion and states’ policies. The main method used in this case study is analysis, description is implemented on events, which are important for the context of this thesis. The practical part is divided into three chapters, which follow up the analysis of contemporary Saudi Arabia and Iran, the last chapter describes the roles of the two countries in selected proxy conflicts and direct incidents.
