The second generation of migrants: return "home" and the perception of their identity

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je systematickou rešerší odborné literatury, zabývající se návratovou migrací tzv. druhé generace migrantů a vnímání jejich identity. Jako druhá generace migrantů jsou označovány děti, jež se narodily v hostitelské zemi a velmi často se potýkají s problémem vnímání vlastní identity. Na jedné straně přebírají určité zkušenosti, zvyky či kulturní tradice svých rodičů. Na straně druhé, vyrůstají v kontaktu s kulturou majoritní společnosti (ve škole, mezi přáteli atd.). Návratová migrace pak označuje proces, kdy se migranti, ať už z důvodů ekonomických, náboženských, politických či jiných, navracejí do země, odkud pocházejí a pokud se opětovně úspěšně začlení do společnosti a pracovního trhu, mohou se stát potencionální hnací silou dané země. Ovšem, ne vždy a ne pro každou generaci migrantů, se jedná o snadný proces. Na rozdíl od první generace migrantů, která se v původní zemi narodila, se druhá generace může potýkat s různými nesnázemi (začlenění či pochopení daného sociálního, kulturního, náboženského nebo politického uspořádání), z čehož plyne celá řada relevantních otázek. Zejména, jak tento proces návratu u nich probíhá, jak ho vnímají a jak se v něm odráží vnímání vlastní identity.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is a systematic search of literature, dealing with the return migration of second generation migrants and the perception of their identity. The second generation of migrants refers to children born in the host country and very often confronted with the problem of perceiving their own identity. On the one hand, they take on some of their parents' experiences, habits or cultural traditions. On the other hand, they grow up in touch with the culture of the majority society (at school, among friends, etc.). Return migration then refers to the process where migrants return to their country of origin for economic, religious, political or other reasons, and if they reintegrate successfully into society and the labor market, they can become the potential driving force of the country. However, not always and not for every generation of migrants is it an easy process. Unlike the first generation of migrants born in the native country, the second generation may experience with a various difficulties (inclusion or understanding of a social, cultural, religious or political setting), which raises a number of relevant issues. In particular, how this process of return takes place, how they perceive it and how it reflects the perception of their own identity.
