Power of flame: return to the ritual

Abstract:

Diplomová práce s názvem Moc plamene - návraty k rituálu se věnuje tématice ohně a rituálu (nejen) ve výtvarném umění. V teoretické části práce se zamýšlím nad významem a funkcí rituálu v různých oblastech lidského života a současně tento pojem definuji prostřednictvím tvorby umělců, kteří pracovali s ohněm jako výtvarným médiem, či ho používali jako významotvorný prvek ve svých performancích. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována také umělcům, kteří svá díla vytvářeli ve spolupráci s přírodními živly. V této části přibližuji významné akční umělce 60. - 90. let 20. století, jejichž uvažování vedlo k osvobození od tradičních forem a způsobilo značnou změnu v pojetí umělecké tvorby. Podrobněji přibližuji konkrétní akce, které se dotýkají rituálních tendencí v umění. Praktická část představuje jednotlivé fáze celého tvůrčího procesu, které jsou výsledkem zamýšlení nad osobním rituálem a významem plamene. Obsahuje dokumentaci obrazových skladeb, jejichž vizuální stránka odráží nahodilost a experimentování s různými druhy technik, ve kterých hraje plamen klíčovou roli. Didaktická část popisuje návrh tematického projektu obsahujícího řadu intermediálních výtvarných aktivit, v nichž žáci hravým způsobem zkoumají různé výtvarné přístupy a techniky. Tyto tři části představují sice značně odlišné, přesto však vnitřně provázané a soudržné pohledy na téma rituálu a jeho významu.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis entitled The power of the flame - returns to ritual deals with the theme of fire and ritual (not only) in visual arts. The theoretical part of the work reflects the meaning and function of ritual in various areas of human life, and at the same time defines this concept through the work of artists who worked with fire as an artistic medium, or used it as an element in their performances. Special attention is also paid to artists who created their works in collaboration with natural elements. This section focuses on important action artists of the 1960s-90s of the 20th century whose thinking led to liberation from traditional artistic forms and caused a significant change in the concept of artistic creation. Specific artistic actions and events are described that explicitly answer the questions of ritual tendencies in art. The practical part presents individual phases of the entire creative process which is the result of thinking about a personal ritual and working with flame. It contains a documentation of pictorial compositions, whose visual aspect is a subject of the influence of chance and experimentation with different kinds of techniques in which flame plays a key role. The didactic part describes the design of a thematic project containing an intermedia art activities in which students playfully explore different art approaches and techniques.
