Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je nejprve představit sociolingvistiku jako vědeckou disciplínu, která obohatila svět vědy ve dvacátém století a dále klasifikace britské a americké sociolingvistiky. Z důvodu nedostačujících česky psaných zdrojů se předmětem zkoumání staly především anglicky psané materiály. Práce je rozdělena do tří hlavních teoretických částí ? Historie britské a americké sociolingvistiky, Moderní sociolingvistika a Hlavní představitelé britské a americké sociolingvistiky. Diplomová práce take obsahuje následující kapitoly ? Úvod, Závěr, Seznam použité literatury a Přílohy. Hlavní důraz byl kladen na kapitolu Moderní sociolingvistika, která se zabývá především současnými trendy této vědní disciplíny. Grafy převzaté z cizojazyčných zdrojů poskytují doplňující informace a přesné statistické údaje. Tato práce by měla sloužit nejen k pochopení vědního oboru sociolingvistiky, ale i k zamyšlení se nad tím, jak se vyvíjí samotný jazyk a jak je ovlivňován současnou společností.

Abstract:

Firstly, the goal of the Diploma Thesis is to introduce sociolinguistics as a science that developed in the 20th century. Secondly, the aim of the Thesis is to provide its readers with a short overview and a classification of modern British and American sociolinguistics. Because of the lack of Czech sources, the work is based mainly on English written materials. The work is divided into three main theoretical parts -.History of British and American sociolinguistics, Modern sociolinguistics and Main representatives of British and American sociolinguistics. The Diploma Thesis also includes the following chapters ? Introduction, Conclusion, Bibliography, Summary and Appendix. The main emphasis was put on the chapter dedicated to Modern sociolinguistics. The chapter deals with the current trends in this scientific field. There are implemented some graphs in this chapter that provides the readers with exact statistical data and additional information. The material should help its readers to understand sociolinguistics as well as to make them think about the language itself. The readers should think about the process of language development as well as about to what extent is language influenced by today?s society.
