The issue of adaptation of the elderly to the environment of the institutional facilities

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je orientována do problematiky adaptace seniorů na prostředí institucionálních zařízení. V teoretické části jsou vymezeny pojmy, které s cílovou skupinou senioři úzce souvisí. Jsou jimi stárnutí a stáří, rizika seniorského věku, vědní obor gerontologie, pohled společnosti na seniora, adaptace, institucionální zařízení obecně a konkrétně domov pro seniory, ve kterém výzkumné šetření proběhlo. Praktická část práce zahrnuje výzkum, který je zaměřen na zjištění skutečností, které by pomohly ke snadnějšímu průběhu adaptace seniorů v institucionálních zařízeních. Výzkum má dvě části. První část výzkumu je zaměřena na adaptační proces z pohledu seniorů, kteří do institucionálních zařízení přicházejí, druhá část je orientována na adaptaci z pohledu pečujícího odborného personálu, který se na adaptaci seniorů přímo podílí. Výsledky výzkumu pak budou použity v daném zařízení ke zkvalitnění adaptační fáze nově příchozích seniorů a tím i ke zkvalitnění života seniorů stávajících.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is oriented at the adaptation of seniors to the environment of institutional facilities. In the theoretical part, the terms that are closely related to the target group of seniors are explained. These terms are: aging and old age, risk of senior age, the scientific field of gerontology, the view of society on a senior, adaptation, institutional facilites both on the whole and specifically the retirement home in which the research took place. The aim of this thesis is the objectification point of view on the issue of adaptation of the elderly and the possibilities of how this adaptation process to improve. The practical part covers the research, which is focused on finding out facts that would help to make the course of seniors' adaptation in institutional facilites easier. The research is comprised of two parts. The first part is focused on the adaptation process from the seniors' point of view, namely those who come to the institutional facilites. The second part is focused on the adaptation from the viewpoint of staff that directly participates in the seniors' adaptation. The results of the research are going to be used in the afore mentioned facility for the improvement of the adaptation phase of newly incoming seniors, and via this use it will improve the quality of life of residing seniors as well.
