The Role of the Public Library in Educational Activities in Czechoslovakia (1918–1938)

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je popsat a zhodnotit roli veřejné knihovny jako součásti veřejné osvěty v Československu let 1918–1938. Úvodní část diplomové práce se zaměří na právní rámec osvětové činnosti a veřejného knihovnictví v meziválečném Československu. Další část práce se bude věnovat koncepci státem řízené veřejné osvěty v ČSR a popíše místo a účel veřejné knihovny v rámci tohoto systému. Poslední část diplomové práce zhodnotí, zda a jak byly cíle osvětových aktivit veřejných knihoven naplněny.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to describe and evaluate the role of public library as a part of public edification in Czechoslovakia in 1918-1938. The introductory part of the thesis focuses on the legal framework of educational activities and public librarianship in the interwar Czechoslovakia. Another part of the thesis focuses on the concept of state-controlled public edification in Czechoslovakia and describes the place and purpose of the public library within this system. The last part of the thesis evaluates whether and how the objectives of public library education activities were fulfilled.
