Germany in CSDP: civilian power, trade state or middle power?

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá popisem a analýzou jednání Spolkové republiky Německo ve Společné zahraniční a bezpečnostní politice EU včetně Evropské bezpečnostní a obranné politiky, a to v období od znovusjednocení SRN na počátku 90. let do současnosti. Hlavním cílem diplomové práce je zodpovědět otázku, ke kterému ze zvolených teoretických konceptů se jednání Německa v tomto období přibližuje nejvíce. Vybranými teoretickými koncepty je koncept civilní mocnosti, koncept obchodního státu a koncept mocnosti středního řádu. V první části diplomové práce jsou podrobně diskutovány a rozpracovány zvolené teoretické koncepty a nastíněn vývoj Německa v období studené války. V další části je stručně uveden vývoj SZBP a EBOP s důrazem na vybrané klíčové body. V poslední části je popsáno a analyzováno vyjednávání SRN o těchto zvolených uzlových bodech SZBP a EBOP.

Abstract:

The thesis describes and analyzes the negotiations of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Common Foreign and Security EU policies including the European Security and Defence Policy in the period since the reunification of Germany in the early 90´s to present. The main aim of this thesis is to answer the question, to which of the selected theoretical concepts are the Germany´s negotiations the most similar. The selected theoretical concepts is the concept of the civilian power, the concept of the trade state and the concept of the middle power. In the first part of the thesis are the theoretical concepts discussed in detail and elaborated. Then there is outlined the progress of Germany in the period of the Cold War. The next section briefly shows the evolution of the CFSP and ESDP with focus on the selected key points. The last part describes and analyzes Germany negotiations on selected nodal points of the CFSP and the ESDP.
