The Role of the Empiric Author in the Interpretation of an Art Work

Abstract:

Anotace Bakalářská diplomová práce „Role empirického autora při interpretaci uměleckého díla“ se zabývá problematikou interpretace uměleckých děl z hlediska role tvůrce v tomto procesu. Explikuje pojem empirického autora podle Umberta Eca a následně představuje názory významných autorů zabývajících se touto tematikou. Převážná většina těchto literárních teoretiků stále působí nebo působila ve 20. století. V rámci svých omezení práce pojednává o třech zásadních postojích, které osobnosti jako Monroe Beardsley, Ernst Gombrich, Umberto Eco a další zaujímají ohledně relevance záměru autora v procesu interpretace uměleckého díla. Nejpodrobněji práce pojednává o Monrou Beardsleym a jeho antiromantické tezi. V závěru obsahové části práce je přítomen též pokus o kratší samostatný výzkum, týkající se daného tématu.

Abstract:

Annotation The bachelor diploma work “The role of the empiric author in the interpretation of an art work” is concerned with the interpretation of art works from the point of view of the author role in this process. It explicates the definition of the empiric author according to Umberto Eco and subsequently presents opinions of significant authors concerned with this topic. The greater part of these literary critics is still active or was active in 20th century. Within its limits the work deals with three fundamental attitudes that have been taken up by such personalities as Monroe Beardsley, Ernst Gombrich, Umberto Eco and others in connection with the relevance of the author´ s intention in the process of the interpretation of an art work. The work focuses particularly on Monroe Beardsley and his anti-romantic thesis. At the end of the content part of the work there can also be found a short independent research related to the given topic.
