Gender categories and their relation to personality characteristics: analysis fictitious applications for employment

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo zmapovat výskyt genderových kategorií v oblasti zaměstnání a osobnostních charakteristik a odhalit souvislost s osobnostními rysy podle pětifaktorového modelu osobnosti. Genderové kategorie jsme vytvořili na základě obsahové analýzy fiktivních motivačních dopisů. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo celkem 243 respondentů ve věkovém rozmezí 16-84 let. Výsledky ukázaly preferenci genderově typického zaměstnání v souladu s pohlavím, v oblasti sebepopisných charakteristik se jedinci genderově neprofilují, přičemž se prokázal celkově nízký výskyt maskulinních kategorií. V rámci osobnostních rysů byl prokázán efekt interakce pohlaví a genderu v oblasti přívětivosti pro obě genderové kategorie. V oblasti genderové kategorie sebepopisných charakteristik byly výsledky na hranici statistické průkaznosti, kdy jedinci řadící se do maskulinní kategorie vykazovali vyšších výsledků v oblasti extraverze, neuroticismu a otevřeností vůči zkušenosti. V práci jsou diskutovány jednotlivé souvislosti a možné příčiny nalezených vztahů.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to map out the occurrence of gender categories in the area of employment and personality characteristics and to reveal the connection with personality traits according to the five-factor model of personality. The gender categories were created based on content analysis of fictitious motivation letters. The survey consisted of 243 respondents aged 16-84. The results showed a preference for gender-based employment in accordance with gender; in terms of self-descriptive characteristics, individuals did not engage in gender, while showing a generally low incidence of masculine categories. Within the personality traits the effect of sex and gender interaction was proved in the area of agreeableness for both gender categories. In the area of the gender category of self-descriptive characteristics, the results were on the threshold of statistical significance as the subjects in the masculine category showed higher results in the area of extravertism, neuroticism and openness to experience. The thesis discusses the various contexts and possible causes of the relationships found.
