Impact of Political Cycle on Economic Policy in the Czech Repulic

Abstract:

Předmětem diplomové práce je analyzovat vliv politického cyklu na formulaci hospodářské politiky České republiky v letech 1993 – 2006. Zkoumáno také bude, zda k těmto cyklům dochází více za vlád pravice nebo levice. Nejprve jsou vymezeny čtyři modely politicko ekonomického modelu. V druhé části je charakterizován model politicko rozpočtového cyklu, který tvoří teoretický základ práce a základní teoretické předpoklady nezbytné pro samotnou analýzu politicko rozpočtového cyklu v České republice. V poslední části jsou na pozadí politického a ekonomického vývoje hledány souvislosti mezi opatřeními fiskální politiky vlády a její snahou v průběhu volebního období účelově ovlivnit ekonomiku a maximalizovat tak své šance na znovuzvolení.

Abstract:

The goal of the submitted thesis is to analyze the impact of the political cycle on the formulation of the economic policy in the Czech Republic from 1993 to 2006. The thesis also examines if the political cycle is stronger under right-wing or left-wing government. Firstly, the thesis specifies four models of the political bussines cycle. In the second part, one model of the political budget cycle, that the thesis is based on and the basic theoretical prerequisites of the analysis of the political budget cycle in the Czech Republic are characterized. In the last part, the author tries to find connections between fiscal government measures and the effort of the politicians to manipulate the economy during their term of office and to maximize the probability of their reelection.
