Spatial distribution of perception of fear in city districts Moravská Ostrava a Přívoz and Vítkovice

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to summarize the knowledge concerning the geographical research of fear and spatial mapping of its distribution within city districts Moravská Ostrava a Přívoz and Vítkovice of Statutory City of Ostrava. The thesis consists of two principal parts. In the first one, we define the basic used terms, analyse theoretical essences of the issue with participation of the widest range of professional sources possible. We perform systematic classification of selected elements, while we try to seek the parallels between features of examined area and the territories described in works cited. We mainly concern on those marks and differences in perception of fear which can be typified and generalized. Our attention is also paid to the impacts of fear on the particular social groups as well as on inner structure of the city. In the second part we examine the data gained from the terrain research done in the area mentioned above. This was realized on the survey of 40 respondents with the use of structured enquiry which contained besides textual questions also maps serving as a tool for spatial expression of places of fear. Results of the research are presented not only in verbal form, but also as tables, graphs and maps. Moreover, we deal with a seek of analogies between theoretical knowledge and practical outputs of the work.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto práce je sumarizácia poznatkov o geografickom výskume strachu a priestorové zmapovanie jeho distribúcie v rámci mestských obvodov Moravská Ostrava a Přívoz a Vítkovice štatutárneho mesta Ostrava. Práca sa skladá z dvoch hlavných častí. V prvej časti definujeme základné použité pojmy, analyzujeme teoretické východiská problematiky so zapojením, čo najširšieho spektra odborných zdrojov. Prevádzame systematické utriedenie vyselektovaných prvkov, pričom sa snažíme o hľadanie paralel medzi znakmi skúmaného územia a literatúrou opisovaných oblastí. Poukazujeme pritom najmä na tie črty a odlišnosti v percepcií strachu, ktoré možno typizovať a generalizovať. Pozornosť je venovaná takisto dopadom strachu na jednotlivé spoločenské skupiny, ako aj vnútornú štruktúru mesta. V druhej časti vykonávame na skúmanom území terénny výskum. Ten bol uskutočnený na vzorke 40 respondentov pomocou štruktúrovaného dotazníku, ktorý okrem textových otázok obsahoval aj mapy slúžiace ako nástroj pre priestorové vyjadrenie miest strachu. Výsledky prevedeného prieskumu sú okrem verbálneho hodnotenia prehľadne prezentované aj vo forme tabuliek, grafov a máp. Takisto sa venujeme hľadaniu analógií medzi teoretickými východiskami a praktickými výstupmi práce.
