Játra jsou největším žlázovým orgánem v lidském těle. Zastávají mnoho životně důležitých funkcí jako je např. produkce žluči, detoxikace nebo regulace hladiny krevní glukózy odbouráváním glykogenu. Játra pochází z entodermu předního střeva. Základní stavební jednotkou jater je jaterní lalůček a hlavní typ jaterních buněk jsou hepatocyty.
