Development of the discourse of Renew Europe MEPs towards the CBAM policy

Abstract:

The aim of the master thesis is to examine the development of the discourse of Renew Europe MEPs from the European Parliament towards the policy of the carbon border adjustment mechanism. The research explored the ideological embeddedness of the Renew faction parties and how it in-fluenced the development of the discourse and the CBAM vote itself. For this, public statements by Renew Europe MEPs on CBAM were used and analysed. At the same time, the research also focused on the role of populism in voting on climate policies, specifically CBAM. Subsequently, it assessed what position Renew has within the EP and what role it plays in the EP's climate positions and the voting itself. For the analysis of the vote, data on the roll-call vote on the CBAM mechanism, available on the European Parliament's website, was used.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto diplomovej práce je skúmať vývoj diskurzu europoslancov frakcie Renew Europe z Európskeho Parlamentu voči politike mecha-nizmu kompenzácie uhlíka na hraniciach (carbon border adjustment mechanism). Výskum skúmal ideologické zakotvenie strán frakcie Re-new a ako ovplyvňovalo vývoj diskurzu a samotné hlasovanie o CBAM. Na to boli použité a analyzované verejné vyjadrenia europoslancov Re-new Europe k CBAM. Zároveň sa výskum zameral aj na rolu populizmu pri hlasovaní o klimatických politikách, konkrétne o CBAM. Následne vyhodnotil akú pozíciu má Renew v rámci EP a akú rolu zohráva v kli-matických postojoch EP a samotnom hlasovaní. Pre analýzu hlasovania boli použité dáta o menovitom hlasovaní k mechanizmu CBAM, dostup-né na webovej stránke Európskeho Parlamentu.
