Direct democracy in the political system of the French Republic

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje přímé demokracii ve Francouzské republice. V této práci se zaměřuji především na referenda, která se konala od roku 1958. Institut referenda je relativně často používán ve Francouzské republice. Je to nejrozšířenější současná forma přímé demokracie. Voliči jsou vyzváni k hlasování a vyjádření svého názoru k některým národním nebo mezinárodním otázkám. Hlavním cílem práce je zhodnotit vliv přímé demokracie na politickou scénu ve Francouzské republice. První část práce je zaměřena na seznámení se základními pojmy spojenými s přímou demokracií. Hlavní pozornost je zaměřena na seznámení s termínem referendum. S tímto termínem pracuji v další části práce. Druhá část se zabývá podrobným zpracováním referend. Nejprve zmíním přehled všech referend, která se kdy konala. Zmiňuji, kdy se referenda konala, v jakých otázkách, jaká byla účast a jaký byl výsledek. V další části se zaměřuji na porovnávání volební účasti referend, prezidentských voleb a voleb do Národního shromáždění. Zaměřuji se také na vliv referend na fungování politického systému. V tomto případě jsem zvolila tři specifická referenda z let 1992, 2005 a 2005. V poslední části práce se zabývám tematikou referend.

Abstract:

This thesis describes the topic of direct democracy in the French Republic. In this thesis I focus mainly on the referendums, which have been held since 1958. The referendum institute is relatively often used in the French Republic. It is the most widespread contemporary form of direct democracy. Voters are invited to vote and express their opinion on some national or international issues. The main aim of this thesis is to evaluate the influence of direct democracy on the political scene in the French Republic. The first part of the thesis is focused on familiarization with basic concepts associated with direct democracy. The main attention is focused on familiarization with the term referendum. With this term I work in the next part of the thesis. The second part deals with the detailed elaboration of the referendums. I first mention the overview of all the referendums that have ever held. I mention when the referendums were held, on what issues, what was the turnout and was the result. In the next part, I focus on comparing the electoral participation of referendums, presidential elections and elections to the National Assembly. I also focus on the influence of referendums on the functioning of the political system. In this case, I chose three specific referendums from 1992, 2005 and 2005. In the last part the thesis deals with the thematic definition of referendums.
