This thesis attempts to present some insights into the Austrian national character using as its basis Elfriede Jelinek?s novel highly acclaimed novel ?The Pianist?. The author, Viennese by birth, became highly renowned following publication of her novel ?The Pianist?. Diese Bachelor Arbeit beschreibt den landeskundlichen Charakters Österreichs am Beispiel des Romans ?Die Klavierspielerin? von Elfride Jelinek. Die Autorin - eine sensible Wienerin - ihren großen Durchbruch geschafft hat. Sie rechnet in dem Roman eigentlich mit allem ab - mit der Musik, mit der Mutter, mit der Stadt Wien.
