Rodent gnaw marks in archeological context

Abstract:

Ohryz na kostech způsobený hlodavci je známým jevem, který však je jen velmi povrchově prozkoumán. Zkoumaný materiál pochází z jižní Moravy a z Vysočiny, datace se u jednotlivých nalezišť pohybuje od doby mladohradištní do 18. století. Cílem této práce je pokusit se shrnout známé poznatky a aplikovat je na podmínky České republiky. Pozornost byla zaměřena především na hlodavce vyskytující se na našem území a jejich potenciál k modifikaci lidských pozůstatků, což je fenomén dosud mapovaný především v zahraniční literatuře.

Abstract:

Gnaw marks caused by rodents are well known phenomenon, but with shallow exploration done in this theme. Material studied in this thesis originates from selected archeological sites at Southern Moravia and Vysočina and is dated to 11th – 18th century. This thesis aims to make a recherche of known published facts and to apply it for rodents and their conditions of Czech Republic. The attention was focused primary on rodents living in this territory and their potential for human bone modifications which display a_phenomenon described namely in foreign literature.
