Casal's Evasion and Lugones' Spiritualism: the Role of Drugs in Hispanic American Modernism facing the Baudelaire's model

Abstract:

The work of the French poet Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) belongs undoubtedly to the greatest treasures of world literature. The French poet is also associated with the increasing use of the term "drug" in literature and his texts are considered to be very influential in the field of the so-called drug literature. This bachelor thesis examines the possible role that drugs and Baudelaire himself played in the work of two important representatives of Latin American Modernism, the Cuban Julián del Casal (1863-1893) and the Argentinian Leopoldo Lugones (1874-1938). The aim of this thesis is to analyse certain expressions with the intention of ascertaining the degree of similarity or difference between them.

Abstract:

Tvorba francúzskeho básnika Charlesa Baudelaira (1821-1867) sa dnes nepochybne radí k pokladom svetovej literatúry. S menom Charles Baudelaire sa tiež spája "udomácnenie" sa pojmu "droga" v literatúre a jeho texty sa považujú za veľmi vplyvné v oblasti tzv. drogovej literatúry. Táto bakalárska práca skúma možnú úlohu, ktorú zohráva droga a samotný vplyv Baudelaira v dielach dvoch významných reprezentantov hispanoamerického modernizmu, Kubánca Juliána del Casala (1863-1893) a Argentínca Leopolda Lugonesa (1874-1938). Cieľom tejto práce je analyzovať dané prejavy so zámerom zistiť mieru podobnosti, resp. odlišnosti.
