Development of Settlement Structures in the South Moravia since the Arrival of the Slavs to the 13th Century

Abstract:

V předkládané diplomové práci jsem se zaměřil na studium raně středověké sídelní struktury ve vybrané části jižní Moravy. V první řadě jsem provedl kritiku pramenů, zhodnotil jsem použité metody archeologické evidence v daném regionu, jejich intenzitu v jednotlivých administrativních celcích a zároveň jsem se pokusil blíže zaměřit na problematiku vlivu těchto metod na celkové chápání sídelní struktury. Na základě datového vzorku jsem se dále zaměřil na to, jak mohla vypadat struktura osídlení v jednotlivých fázích raného středověku a jak se měnila a vyvíjela s postupem času. V rámci dynamiky osídlení jsem se zaměřil i na otázku přesunu obyvatelstva z jihovýchodní do jihozápadní části jižní Moravy, ke kterému mělo podle některých úvah dojít někdy v průběhu 10. století. Hlavní část mé práce byla věnována studiu prostorových vztahů raně středověkých komponent vůči geografickým proměnným. Vyhodnocení pramenů jsem uskutečnil za pomoci Geografických informačních systémů a statistických nástrojů. Tyto metody poskytují při zkoumání prostorových vztahů mnoho nesporných výhod a jejich použití se při řešení těchto otázek stalo již standardem.

Abstract:

In this thesis I focused on settlement structures in selected area in Southern Moravia. First of all I did a critique of all the resources, then I evaluated the methods used for record keeping in this region and its intensity within individual administrative territories, and I also tried to focus on the influence these methods have on the conception of settlement structure itself. Based on data sample I focused also on how the settlement structures could have looked like in each early medieval period and how it changed through time. Within the settlement dynamics I focused on the issues concerning relocation of the population from south-eastern part of South Moravia to the south-western part, which, according to several opinions, took place in 10th century AD. The main part of my thesis is focused on spatial relations between early medieval components and geographical variables. The evaluation was done using Geographical informational systems and statistical instruments. These methods and instruments offer indisputable advantages in spatial relations studies and their application became a standard.
