Aino-Marsio Aalto as an archetype of the modern woman and designer

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Aino Marsio-Aalto jako archetyp moderní ženy a designérky“ představí několik designérek 20. a 30. let minulého století, působících ve střední Evropě, a zároveň jejich projekty uvede do kontrastu s produkcí finské moderní designérky Aino Aalto. Práce popíše postavení těchto žen jak v moderní společnosti, tak na tehdejší evropské designerské scéně. Dále provede analýzu několika specifických typů interiérových projektů, týkajících se funkcionalistické bytové kultury a popíše, jak se s nimi vyrovnávaly jednotlivé designérky, stejně jako recepci vlivů, které se do nich promítaly. Postupně se analýza zaměří na oblast kuchyňských prostor, dětských pokojů, pedagogických institucí a určitá odvětví užitého designu. Na závěr se autorka práce pokusí zodpovědět otázku, jakým způsobem středoevropské designérky a zároveň Aino Aalto reagovaly na specifické požadavky moderní bytové kultury a funkcionalismu a popřípadě se mezi nimi odhalí společné tendence a spojitosti.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis „Aino-Marsio Aalto as an archetype of the modern woman and designer“ will introduce several women designers of the 1920s and 1930s, active in Central Europe, while putting their projects into the contrast with the finnish modern designer Aino Aalto's production. The work will describe the position of these women both in modern society and on the European design scene at the time. It will also analyse several specific types of interior design projects, which relate to functionalist housing culture and describe how the female designers dealt with them, as well as provide the reception of influences that were reflected in them. The analysis itself will focus on kitchen spaces, children's rooms, kindergartens and certain applied arts. Finally, the author of the paper will attempt to answer the question of how Central European designers and Aino Aalto responded to the specific demands of modern housing culture and functionalism and, if found, will reveal common tendencies and connections between them.
