Heidegger and Lévinas

Abstract:

V bakalářské práci se věnuji Martinu Heideggerovi a jeho pojetí bytí k smrti z díla Bytí a čas. Ukážu, jak zásadní je tato koncepce pro každý jeden pobyt, a nakonec i pro základní existenciální strukturu spolubytí. V práci rozvedu některé myšlenky z díla Emmanuela Lévinase, který se vůči koncepci bytí k smrti vymezoval. Nepůjde o pouhou komparaci, ale o snahu zjistit, jak oba autoři chápou konečnost ve vztahu k druhému člověku. K Heideggerovi budu přistupovat jako k mysliteli, pro kterého druhý není konstitutivním ve vztahu k vlastní smrti. Přijetí vlastní konečnosti je cestou osamocení, která vede přes úzkost a mlčenlivý hlas svědomí. U Lévinase jde o opačný výklad, který za každých okolností zdůrazňuje předřazenost druhého a ponechává člověka v jeho osobitosti i v posledních chvílích. Zároveň neopomíjí zásadní moment interpersonálně sdíleného času a znovunalezení smyslu navzdory vědomí smrti.

Abstract:

I dedicate this bachelor thesis to Martin Heidegger and his concept being towards death, which is one of the main themes from the work Being and Time. I will show how fundamental this conception is to every single Dasein, and ultimately to the basic existential structure of Mitsein. I also develop some ideas from the work of Emmanuel Lévinas, who was opposed to the conception of being towards death. Primarily, this will be a comparison, but equally important will be a critical insight into how both authors understand finitude in relation to the other person. I will approach Heidegger as a thinker for whom the other is not constitutive in relation to his own death. Accepting one's own finitude is a path of solitude that leads through anxiety and the silent voice of conscience. For Lévinas, it is the opposite interpretation that emphasizes the other's primacy in all circumstances and leaves the person in his or her particularity even in the last moments. At the same time, he does not neglect the crucial moment of interpersonally shared time and the rediscovery of meaning despite the consciousness of death.
