Modelling catastrophic risk

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje modelování katastrofických individuálních škod v neživotním pojištění. Cílem této práce bylo popsat trendy ve vývoji katastrofických událostí ve světě i v české republice a dále popsat dva hlavní modely pro modelování, metodu blokového maxima a metodu excedentů přes vysoký práh. V teoretické části diplomová práce popisuje teoretická spojitá rozdělení pravděpodobnosti, která jsou vhodná pro modelování výše škod a pojistných plnění a diskrétní rozdělení pro modelování počtu výskytů škod a pojistných událostí. Dále práce teoreticky popisuje metodu blokového maxima, které podle Fisher-Tippettovy věty má zevšeobecněné rozdělení extrémních hodnot a metodu excedentů přes vysoký práh, která podle věty Pickandsa, Balkema a de Haana má Paretovo rozdělení pravděpodobnosti. V aplikační části je praktická ukázka modelování právě těmito metodami za pomocí programového vybavení Microsoft Office Excel, STATGRAPHIC Centurion XV, R s modulem Extremes Toolkit a STATISTICA na datech o výši škod způsobených požáry v Dánsku v letech 1980-1990.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with modelling of catastrophic damage in individual non-life insurance. The aim of this study was to describe trends in the development of catastrophic events in the world and in the Czech Republic, and describe the two main models for modelling method of block-maxima, peaks over threshold method. In the theoretical part the thesis describes the theoretical continuous probability distributions that are suitable for modelling damages and claims and discrete distributions for modeling the number of occurrences damages and claims. Further theoretical work describes a block-maxima method, which has according to Fisher-Tippett theorem generalized extreme value distribution and the peaks over threshold method, which has according to theorem Pickandsa, Balkema and de Haan Pareto distribution. In the practical part is a practical demonstration by these modeling methods using the software Microsoft Office Excel, STATGRAPHIC Centurion XV and STATISTICA based on the data about the amount of damage caused by fires in Denmark in the years 1980-1990.
