Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je zkoumání protiinflační politik vlády Margaret Thatcherové v letech 1979-1990. Teoretická část uvádí pohled různých ekonomických škol na inflaci a představuje antiinflační politiky, které byly dostupné a známé během funkčního období M. Thatcherové. Hlavním cílem teoretické části je především srovnání pohledu neokeynesiánců a monetaristů na inflaci a způsoby, jak jí předcházet. V empirické části jsou představeny jednotlivé antiinflační politiky vlády M. Thatcherové a její důsledky pro britskou ekonomiku. Za užití dat Banky Anglie je sestavených 9 ekonometrické modelů, které zkoumají, který z peněžních agregátů (M0, M1 a £M3) byl nejvíc korelován s inflací ve Spojeném Království. Na základě těchto modelů jsem došel k závěru, že u agregátu M0 byla největší korelace s mírou inflace. Dalším cílem analytické části bylo srovnání výsledků antiinflační politiky M. Thatcherové s inflací, která v těchto charakterizovaly důležité obchodní partnery Spojeného království (Spojené státy americké, Německo a Francii). Tato analýza ukázala, že přestože se M. Thatcherové podařilo značně snížit míru inflace oproti 70. letům, míra inflace, která převládala v britské ekonomice během funkčního období M. Thatcherové, nadále byla větší než ve srovnávaných státech.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine the counter-inflationary policy of the government of Margaret Thatcher in 1979-1990. The theoretical part presents the views of various economics schools on inflation and represents counter-inflationary policies that were available and known during M. Thatcher's term of office. The main aim of the theoretical part is to compare the view of Neo-Keynesian economists and Monetarists on inflation and ways to prevent it. The empirical part introduces M. Thatcher's counter-inflationary policies and its implications for the British economy. Using the Bank of England data, 9 econometric models are being developed to investigate which of the monetary aggregate (M0, M1 and M3) were most correlated with inflation in the United Kingdom. Based on these models, I came to the conclusion that the M0 aggregate was the most correlated with the inflation rate in the United Kingdom. Another goal of the analytical part was to compare the outcomes of M. Thatcher's inflationary policy, with inflation rates, which characterized important UK trading partners as United States of America, Germany and France. This analysis showed that although M. Thatcher managed to significantly reduced the inflation rate compared to the 1970s, the rate of inflation, that prevailed in the UK economy during M. Thatcher’s term of office was higher than in the compared countries.
