The Jewish Religious Community in Prague VIII. - Libeň during the First and Second Czechoslovak Republic

Abstract:

Předkládaná magisterská diplomová práce se zaměřuje na dějiny Židovské náboženské obce v Praze VIII. – Libni za první a druhé republiky. Primárním cílem práce je podrobně zmapovat aspekty vývoje obce v meziválečném období, kterému dosud nebyla v odborné literatuře věnována adekvátní pozornost. Sekundárním cílem práce je poskytnout základní přehled vývoje této židovské náboženské obce od jejího vzniku až po 20. století. Práce obsahuje základní informace k organizaci obce i sondu do životů jejích čelných představitelů a několika židovských rodin. Cílem je postihnout základní hospodářské a sociální charakteristiky meziválečného židovského obyvatelstva Libně, především se zřetelem k počínající perzekuci židovského obyvatelstva krátce před vypuknutím druhé světové války.

Abstract:

The present MA thesis is concerned with the history of Jewish Religious Community in Prague VIII. – Libeň during the First and Second Czechoslovak Republic. The primary aim of this thesis is to cover the main aspects of the development of the Jewish Community in Libeň in the period between the two World Wars. This period of the history of Jewish Community in Libeň has not been reflected in the scholarly literature so far. The secondary aim of the thesis is to provide basic outline of the development of this Jewish Community from its early beginnings until the 20th century. The thesis includes basic information relating to the organization of the Community as well as insights into the lives of its main representatives and a number of Jewish families. This information should help to establish the basic economic and social characteristics of Jewish population in Libeň between the two World Wars, especially with regard to the beginnings of persecution aimed against the Jewish population shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War.
