French Communist Party: Disintegration of Identity?

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je provést analýzu identity současné Komunistické strany Francie (PCF) za použití konceptu stranické rodiny. Práce zodpoví otázku, zda je nadále možné přiřadit PCF ke komunistickému typu v rámci krajní levice v pojetí autorů L. March a C. Mudde a určí jejich současnou ideologickou orientaci. Zároveň se práce zaměří na relevanci současné PCF, kdysis jedné z hlavních politických sil, ve francouzském stranickém systému. Klíčovým kritériem pro zjištění identity PCF je posouzení ideově-politické orientace strany, dalšími kritérii je historický původ strany a zohledněný jsou rovněž mezinárodní vazby PCF.

Abstract:

The thesis aims to make the analysis of the current identity of the French Communist Party (PCF) using the party family concept. The thesis is to reveal whether the PCF can still be defined as a communist political party within the frame of the far left as it is conceived by L. March and C. Mudde and it aims to determine its current ideological orientation. The extent to which the PCF, once a major political force, retains its relevance within the French party system is approached as well. The primary criterion facilitating the identification of the party identity is the ideological and political orientation of the PCF, other criteria include the PCF historical development and its engagement in international relations.
