Study of acting at JAMU and usage of gained knowledge in the acting profession

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá reflexí čtyřletého studia herectví v ateliéru doc. Oxany Smilkové na Janáčkově akademii múzických umění v Brně. Diplomant v ní nejprve pečlivě přibližuje průběh svého studia a analyzuje studijní plán jednotlivých let. Následně se na základě vlastní sebereflexe pokouší navrhnout optimální klíč ke studiu herectví, což by mohlo být přínosné a využitelné pro budoucí uchazeče a posluchače herectví. V další části této práce diplomant na své poznatky nahlíží optikou konkrétní praktické zkušenosti, jíž nabyl nastudováním ústřední role Christophera v divadelní hře Podivný případ se psem (Městské divadlo v Mostě, 2016). Cílem předkládané práce je kriticky zvážit vztah mezi studiem herectví a následnou praxí v konkrétním divadelním provozu, pojmenování spojitosti i limitů. Diplomant se v této práci zabývá zejména tím, do jaké míry jsou znalosti a zkušenosti nabyté během čtyřletého studia na JAMU uplatitelné a využitelné v praxi.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with a reflection of four years of studying acting at the studio of Oxana SMILKOVÁ at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. At the beginning of this thesis, there is a detailed description of the course followed by an analysis of the curriculum of each year. Subsequently, on the basis of my self-reflection, I will try to suggest the optimal key for studying acting, which could be beneficial and useful to future applicants and students of acting. In the next part of this thesis, I intend to review my learned knowledge through my practical experience, acquired during my own preparations whilst playing the main character role of Christopher in the stage play The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (City Theatre in Most, 2016). The aim of this thesis is to critically reflect the relationship between the study of acting and subsequent practice in a specific theatre environment, outlining the coherence and limitations. I am particularly considering to what extent the knowledge and experience gained during the four-year study at JAMU, is applicable and used in practice.
