Hygiene in ancient Rome in the era of republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá hygienu v antickém Římě v období republiky s přihlédnutím k historickému vývoji města a k předchůdcům žijících na tomto území či etnik přispívajících k rozvoji kulturního a technologického bohatství. Práce popisuje fungování vodovodní a kanalizační sítě města. Dále se práce zabývá hygienou města jako celku a jeho vypořádáváním se s odpadem. Popisuje fungování veřejných a soukromých lázní a procedur spojených s návštěvou těchto míst. Taktéž zmiňuje veřejné a soukromé latríny. V neposlední řadě osvětluje osobní hygienu mužů a žen, pomůcky s tímto spojených a sociální dopad návštěv lázní.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the function and technology behind the hygiene in ancient Rome in the era of Republic, considering the historical development of the city itself and the predecessors living in this area or other ethnic groups contributing to the development of cultural and technological wealth. This work also describes the function of water pipe and sewer system. Furthermore, the work deals with the hygiene of the city as a whole and its waste. It describes private and public spas and the procedures associated with visiting these places. It also describes the function of public and private toilets. Finally, it sheds light on the personal hygiene of men and women, the aids needed with the visits and the social impact on spa visits.
