Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vztahem mezi lidmi a ostatními zvířaty. Je rozčleněna do šesti kapitol, z nichž každá je zaměřena na určitou problematiku související s otázkou postavení zvířat v současné společnosti a zejména s hnutím na jejich ochranu. První kapitola ve stručnosti představuje hnutí na ochranu zvířat, a to z hlediska jeho historických kořenů, cílů a používaných strategií. Další kapitoly obsahují jádro celé práce: jak analýzu filozofických postojů klíčových myslitelů, spjatých s tímto hnutím, tak jejich oponentů. Zabývají se rovněž druhovou nadřazeností a karnismem, tedy ideologiemi, jež využívání zvířat, a zejména jejich zabíjení na jídlo, ospravedlňují.

Abstract:

The thesis primarily focuses on the philosophical dimension of the current relationship between human and nonhuman animals. It is divided into six chapters which deal with distinct theoretical principles of the animal advocacy movement. While the movement is briefly introduced with regard to its historical roots, different theoretical orientations and controversial strategies in the first chapter, the contributions of its most influential thinkers and their opponents are analysed in the core of the thesis. The remaining chapters explore the systems of belief underlying and seemingly justifying human use of other animals and, in particular, the consumption of nonhuman animals.
