Correlation between internalized homonegativity, perceived social support and outness in gay men

Abstract:

This study analyses the relationships between internalized homonegativity, outness and perceived social support in gay men from Slovakia and Czech Republic. Using online survey data from 76 gay men were collected and analysed. The Internalized Homonegativity Inventory (IHNI) was used to determine the level of internalized homonegativity. To determine the level of outness Outness Inventory (OI) was used and to determine the level of perceived social support Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) was used. Between internalized homonegativity and outness significant moderate negative correlation (ρ=-0,594; p<0,01) was found. Between internalized homonegativity and perceived social support significant but weak negative correlation (ρ=-0,305; p<0,01) was found. Between outness and perceived social support the correlation was significant and positive but weak (ρ=0,301; p<0,01).

Abstract:

Štúdia skúma súvislosti medzi internalizovanou homonegativitou, mierou otvorenosti o sexuálnej orientácií (outness) a vnímanou sociálnou oporou u slovenských a českých mužov, gejov, vo veku do 26 rokov. Prostredníctvom online dotazníkového šetrenia boli zozbierané a analyzované dáta od 76 respondentov. Na zistenie miery internalizovanej homonegativity bol použitý dotazník Internalized Homonegativity Inventory (IHNI), na zistenie miery otvorenosti o sexuálnej orientácií (outness) dotazník Outness inventory (OI) a na zistenie vnímanej sociálnej opory dotazník Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Medzi internalizovanou homonegativitou a mierou otvorenosti o sexuálnej orientácií (outness) bol nájdený štatisticky významný stredne tesný negatívny vzťah (ρ=-0,594; p<0,01), medzi internalizovanou homonegativitou a vnímanou sociálnou oporou štatisticky významný, ale nie príliš tesný negatívny vzťah (ρ=-0,305; p<0,01) a medzi mierou otvorenosti o sexuálnej orientácií (outness) a vnímanou sociálnou oporou štatisticky významný, ale nie príliš tesný pozitívny vzťah (ρ=0,301; p<0,01).
