Abstract:

This thesis examines the role of tradition in the stories told by Amy Tan in The Joy Luck Club. In this thesis, I show how crucial tradition is to the formation of identity and explain its significance in filial relationships. With the emphasis on tradition, I examine the exact results of emotional, psychological or transgenerational trauma. Goals: -show the differences in perception of Chinese tradition between first-generation Chinese Americans and the Chinese -show that tradition serves as a source of conflict in the cross-cultural filial relationships -explain the traditional actions of the mothers and daughters basedon their cultural identity and ancestry

Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá roli tradice v příbězích knihy Klub radosti a štěstí od Amy Tan. V této práci poukazuji na důležitost tradice pro formaci identity a vysvětluji její podstatu ve vztazích matek a dcer. S důrazem na tradici zkoumám přesné výsledky emocionálního, psychologického a generačního přenosu traumatu. Cíle: -ukázat rozdíl v pojetí čínské tradice mezi první generací Američanů čínského původu a Číňany -ukázat, že tradice je zdrojem konfliktu v mezi kulturních vztazích matek a dcer -vysvětlit tradiční činy matek a dcer na základě jejich kulturní identity a původu
