The effect of land use on spatiotemporal dynamic of Sajó river channel

Abstract:

Říční vzorec je obvykle v první řadě určován průtoky, a tedy podmíněn klimaticky. Při vývoji říčního vzorce meandrující řeky Sajó v Maďarsku byl pravděpodobně klíčovým faktorem land use. K potvrzení této teze byl studován vývoj řeky od roku 1952 do roku 2011, a to za pomoci leteckých fotografií a ortofota. Byla sledována změna délky aktivního koryta a laterální posuvy koryta v letech 1952, 1956, 1975, 1988, 2000, 2005 a 2011. V rámci bufferu toku byly v letech 1952 a 2011 zmapovány jednotlivé kategorie land use. Tyto dvě sady dat byly porovnány a následně konfrontovány se změnou říčního vzorce. Nárůstem ploch lesa došlo do roku 2011 ke stabilizaci a zúžení koryta řeky. Bylo prokázáno, že land use se stal hlavním faktorem ovlivňujícím laterální posuvy koryta řeky. Zkrácení toku o 3,1 km v roce 2011 oproti roku 1952 bylo způsobeno zejména antropogenním působením.

Abstract:

River pattern is usually determined primarily by the river discharges, and thus conditioned by climate. During the development of the river pattern of Sajó river in Hungary, land use was probably the key factor. The river development from 1952 to 2011 using aerial imagery and ortofoto has been studied to prove this thesis. Change of the length of the active channel and lateral channel shifts in 1952, 1956, 1975, 1988, 2000, 2005 and 2011 have been observed. Each land use category was mapped within a buffer in 1952 and 2011. These two sets of data were compared and subsequently confronted with the river pattern change. Increase of forest areas till 2011 caused stabilization of the river channel and its narrowing. It was proved, that land use has become major factor influencing lateral channel movement of the river. The river shortening by 3.1 km in 2011 in comparison with 1952 was caused mainly by anthropogenic impact.
