Intergenerational transmission and intergenerational similarity of value orientations

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá mezigenerační podobností a mezigeneračním přenosem hodnotových orientací z rodičů na jejich dospělé děti (18-26 let). Hlavním cílem bylo porovnání toho, jak jsou si rodiče a děti hodnotově podobní, s tím, jakou mezi sebou vnímají hodnotovou podobnost, zda je tato měřená i vnímaná hodnotová podobnost ovlivněna pozitivním rodičovským stylem a dále zda mezigenerační hodnotová podobnost souvisí s mezigenerační podobností v úrovni smyslu života. Výzkumný vzorek tvořilo 90 respondentů, z toho 45 rodičů (50 %) a 45 dětí (50 %). Každý rodič a jeho dítě tvořili jeden pár stejného pohlaví (32 párů matka-dcera, 13 párů otec-syn). Využili jsme tyto metody: Dotazník vnímané mezigenerační podobnosti, Perceptions of Parents Scales (POPS), Portrait Values Questionnaire (PVQ-21) a Škála životní smysluplnosti (ŠŽZ). Výsledky ukazují, že u většiny sledovaných hodnot existuje kladný vztah mezi hodnotovou orientací rodičů a jejich dětí, což koresponduje také s vnímanou podobností z pohledu rodičů i z pohledu dětí. Jak u rodičů, tak i u dětí se na jedné z prvních tří příček z celkových 14 sledovaných charakteristik ve vnímané podobnosti objevila celková hodnotová orientace. Mimo to byl také nalezen u většiny sledovaných hodnot kladný vztah mezi vnímanou hodnotovou podobností ze strany rodičů a vnímanou hodnotovou podobností ze strany dětí. Mezi měřenou hodnotovou podobností a vnímanou hodnotovou podobností však nebyla nalezena žádnou souvislost. Při prozkoumání vlivu rodičovského stylu na měřenou hodnotovou podobnost a vnímanou hodnotovou podobnost jsme zjistili, že zatímco na měřenou hodnotovou podobnost nemá pozitivní rodičovský styl vliv, na vnímanou hodnotovou podobnost má vliv velmi zřetelný. Čím větší míru vřelosti, zájmu a podpory autonomie vnímaly děti ze strany svých rodičů, tím více se jim cítily být hodnotově podobné. V otázce souvislosti mezi hodnotovou podobností a podobností v úrovni smyslu života jsme nenalezli žádný systematický vztah mezi těmito dvěma proměnnými.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on intergenerational similarity and intergenerational transmission of value orientation from parents to their adult children (18-26 years old). The main objective was to compare the measured similarity and the perceived similarity in value orientations between parents and their children, then to find out an effect of positive parenting style to the measured similarity and the perceived similarity in value orientations. Finally, this work analysed a correlation between the measured similarity in value orientations and the intergenerational similarity in meaning in life. Our sample consisted of 90 respondents, of which 45 were parents (50 %) and 45 were children (50 %). Each parent and his or her child represented a pair of the same gender (32 pairs mother-daughter, 32 pairs father-son). We used following methods: The Questionnaire of Perceived Intergenerational Similarity, Perceptions of Parents Scales (POPS), Portrait Values Questionnaire (PVQ-21), The Meaning in Life Scale (ŠŽZ). The results show positive correlation between the value orientation of parents and the value orientation of children in most examined values. It plainly corresponds also with the perceived value orientation from the point of view of parents as well as children. Parents as well as children perceived overall value orientation as one of three most important characteristics in which they felt more similar to each other. Besides that, positive correlation between the perceived value similarity from the point of view of parents and the perceived value similarity from the point of view of children was found in most examined values. However, there was found no correlation between the measured value similarity and the perceived value similarity. In case of examination of the influence of parenting style on the measured value similarity and the perceived value similarity we found that positive parenting style has no impact on measured value similarity, but it has obvious impact on perceived value similarity. The more warmth, involvement and autonomy support children perceived from their parents, the more value similarity children felt. In case of relationship between the value similarity and the similarity in meaning in life we found no systematic relationship between these two variables.
